In 1950, a night-time passenger train hits and kills Orzechowski (Kazimierz Opaliński), a train engineer who happened to be on the tracks. An inquiry follows, but nothing is quite as clear as the committee would hope, with inter-generational differences and political allegiances obscuring the truth. Through the testimonies of three witnesses – shown through flashbacks – director Andrzej Munk tells a dark tale of toxic mistrust in Stalinist Poland. One of the first films to emerge from the post-war Polish Film School, Man on the Tracks won the Best Director award at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

Available from 7 May.
