Written and directed by one of the outstanding partnerships in contemporary Polish cinema Saviour Square resonates with tension. Jowita Budnik gives an exceptional performance as Beata whose life and dreams pivot precariously on the deals of her husband and her relationship with her mother-in-law.

Following on the international success of their My Nikifor this intimate, realist drama, developed from a true story, owes more to Krauze’s earlier The Debt, showing a modern family in crisis.

Hugely popular with Polish audiences and set in identifiable Warsaw locations this is an universal tale, often told in disconcerting close-up showing the fragility of family life and the importance of forgiveness.

The film will be available as a part of BFI Player subscription from 6 - 27 May.
