For the Sherpas, Kumbhakarna is a holy mountain, one that must not be climbed. Yet when a group of Polish and Russian alpinists ask Jomdoe and Ngada for their assistance in scaling the mountain, the couple break with taboo and agree to become guides – for the sake of their son’s future. The Wall of Shadows depicts their impressive ascent of the Himalayan peak, as well as the tensions that emerge between the tourists and the locals, mirroring traditional folk tales about the power of Kumbhakarna. The film won the Documentaire Extraordinaire Award at Bergen International Film Festival.
Film will be available via ICA Cinema 3 between 13 May - 20 May.
