Perhaps developing from his experience making Father and Son (2013) with his own father Paweł Łoziński turns to conversations between a mother and daughter.

This film’s universal resonance resulted in invitations to festivals around the world where it provoked debate and acclaim for its methodology. Three faces fill the frame one by one. Ewa and Hanna, aided by Professor Bogdan de Barbaro, an eminent psychotherapist from Kraków, try to express and understand their own and each others feelings and to heal a rift that has consumed their relationship.

The deep intimacy offered to the viewer by the close-up frame (think Bergman’s Persona) is almost overwhelming as the emotion pours out. The closing credits add an extra dimension to our understanding of this difficult journey, particularly at a time when the significance of our mental health begins to be recognised.

The film will be available as a part of BFI Player subscription from 6 - 27 May.
